I was so honored in Key Largo this morning. I was having my first cup of coffee and I heard someone yell Manatees!! So I grabbed my phone and ran outside.
There, in the canal, was this huge Mama Manatee and her little Baby!! I was just giggling I was so happy!! I have always wanted to see a Manatee in the wild and my wish came true today.
During the winter months, manatees head for warm waters, such as springs and power plant discharge basins. For the remainder of the year, manatees are widely dispersed in Florida's waterways. So as soon as I got to the dock, I ran the water hose and they both came right up to me and I gave them a good spray. The Mamma opened her mouth and I was spraying fresh water into her mouth and the entire length of her back. It was so amazing!
